Dear Sunderland Parents and Community Members:

At last evening's Town Meeting, Sunderland residents approved a balanced budget for the town. This included a school budget of $1,983,422 for the 2009-2010 school year.

Although our school budget was cut by $384,558 and many of our programs were eliminated, I am confident that we will be providing a program that has educational value for each of our students. This is a commitment shared by the administrators, faculty and staff.

Please note that over $20,000 has been raised to date by the efforts of the newly formed Sunderland Sustain Our Schools Emergency Fund committee. These are hard-working, committed parents and community members for whose help we are indebted and thankful. All donations are tax deductible according to IRS regulations.

More information regarding specific programs, faculty assignments, Out-of-School Time activities, and other issues pertinent to Sunderland Elementary School will be posted to our website and updated on a regular basis.

We look forward to the re-opening of school on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, and are hopeful that your children will be joining us.

Sincerely,

Regina H. Nash, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
